I was born in California and raised in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. Growing up, I always had an interest in the sciences, music, and outdoors. However, I had three vastly different career goals growing up. To be a teacher, doctor, and rockstar. In my adult life, I have continually worked towards integrating these three crafts into my personal and professional life. Early in my college career, I realized that a STEM research doctorate was much more fitting for my personality than becoming a medical doctor. It allowed me to continuously ask questions and pass on my knowledge to others.

In 2015 I received my Ph.D. in neuroscience from Washington State University and am still currently in this field of research. This has expanded my experience as a teacher and mentor in and out of the classrooms. I’m also grateful that my love for music became a passionate hobby, as in hindsight, I’m probably not cut out for long seasons of touring in a small bus on the road. When not looking over data or writing up results, I’m usually collaborating on music projects or planning my next trip in the mountains or to a new destination abroad.
